The Line: Chicago Cubs / Texas Rangers --- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds
The Texas Rangers and Chicago Cubs play game one of their series early Friday afternoon.
The Texas Rangers could use a win after losing nine of their last 12 games. The Rangers have allowed 28 runs in their last three games and five or more runs in five straight games. The Texas Rangers have an ERA of 4.42 and have lost eight of their last nine games when allowing more than three runs. Offensively, Ian Desmond leads Texas with 113 hits, Rougned Odor has 46 RBI and Adrian Beltre has 12 home runs. Martin Perez gets the nod, and he’s 7-5 with a 3.85 ERA and 52 strikeouts this season. This will be Perez’s first career game against the Cubs.
USA TODAY Sports
The Chicago Cubs also need a win after losing nine of their last 11 games. The Cubs have scored 16 runs in their last three games and four or more runs in five of their last seven games. The Chicago Cubs offense continues to show up, and they’ve won six of their last 10 games when scoring more than three runs. Kris Bryant leads Chicago with 94 hits, Anthony Rizzo has 63 RBI and Ben Zobrist has 13 home runs. Kyle Hendricks takes the hill, and he’s 7-6 with a 2.55 ERA and 86 strikeouts this season. This will be Hendricks’ first career game against the Rangers.
The Rangers are 6-1 in their last 7 vs. National League Central and 8-1 in Perezs last 9 starts. The Cubs are 8-3 in their last 11 games following an off day and 4-0 in Hendricks' last 4 starts. The Rangers are 1-4 in the last 5 meetings.
The Cubs continues to play lousy baseball as of late, and yet they continue to get these insane odds. The Rangers have the offensive firepower to hang with any team in the league. I'll take my chances with Texas as more of a fade from the Cubs.
