The Miami Marlins look for another upset victory on the road against the St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday after grabbing a win in the series opener last night.
The Marlins got back in the win column in their first game since the all-star break as they had the big bats swinging against the Cardinals at Busch Stadium and now they will look for an encore as they face off against Adam Wainwright who hasn’t quite had the numbers this season but is still a very solid pitching options for St. Louis. The Marlins have been one of the biggest surprises in the National League this season but they have a very nice roster and teams should have seen them coming as they have guys like Giancarlo Stanton, Christian Yelich, and a resurgent Marcell Ozuna and with Jose Fernandez being one of the best arms in the league they have their bona fide ace as well. Miami is in the mix for a wild card spot and another win here against a team they are competing with in that race could do wonders for their confidence and morale.

The Cardinals meanwhile have been a pretty inconsistent bunch this season and seem to be a step behind where we usually see them but they are still in the playoff hunt and could be a team to watch out for in the second half. St. Louis has some pretty good pieces in place as well and have two arms in their rotation that other teams covet in Wainwright and Carlos Martinez but whether or not the Cards become buyers or sellers remains to be seen as they are in a state of limbo in the organization. The Cards will face off against Tom Koehler in this one who has been decent this season as he is 6-7 with a 4.50 ERA and he will need to be strong here as the Cards seem to get up for Wanwright starts and that is what we see here.
The Marlins are 5-0 in their last five against the NL Central, 4-1 in their last five overall, and 1-5 in Koehler’s last six starts on a Saturday while the Cards are 22-5 in their last 27 game two’s of a series in which Wainwright starts, 29-17 in his last 56 home starts, and 4-10 in their last 14 home games. The Marlins to me are the better team overall but the pitching edge here goes to the Cards and that should be enough for them to even this series with the Marlins on Saturday night.
