The Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees meet in Sunday Night Baseball.
The Boston Red Sox are white hot as they try to chase down Baltimore in the American League East. Boston stayed hot with a 5-2 win at New York Saturday for their 9th victory in eleven contests. Red Sox starter Eduardo Rodriguez improved to 2-3 with a run allowed over seven frames and the bats did the rest. Boston totaled ten hits and walked four times with Sandy Leon cracking a three run homer and driving in four while Jackie Bradley Jr. scored twice. Left hander David Price takes the hill versus the Yankees for the third time this year. Price comes off a 4-0 victory versus Tampa Bay last time out with ten strikeouts over eight scoreless innings.
USA TODAY Sports
The New York Yankees are in the midst of deciding whether to make a few trades or stand pat. The Yankees dropped a game in the American League East standings with Saturdays defeat to visiting Boston and with Baltimore winning. Yanks starter CC Sabathia pitched better then the boxscore indicates with all five runs plated (four earned) on nine hits and three BB through 5.1 innings. The Bronx Bombers were held to five hits and a pair of walks with Brett Gardner and Chase Headley smacking solo jacks. Masahiro Tanaka toes the rubber versus the visiting Red Sox for the third time in 2016. Tanaka did not get a decision in an 11-7 win at Cleveland with seven runs plated (three earned) on ten hits in 4.2 frames.
Boston are 9-3 in their last 12 Sunday games and the under is 6-2 in their last 8 Sunday games while the over is 9-4-1 in heir last 14 road games. The over is 6-2-1 in the Yankees last 9 overall and is 6-2-1 in their last 9 on grass while New York are 7-1 in Tanaka’s last 8 home starts. Boston are 8-3 in the last 11 meetings and the under is 5-2-1 in the last 8 meetings. The pitching is a toss up to me so I’ll take offense here…
