Collin McHugh will be making the start for the Astros on Sunday. In his 18 starts and 5-6 record this year, McHugh has put up a 4.50 ERA with a 1.46 WHIP in 102 innings. Against the A’s his last time out, McHugh put up six innings with eight hits and three earned for a no-decision.
At the plate, the Astros have some real talent. Jose Altuve is way out front on 121 hits with 68 runs, 14 homers and 51 RBI. George Springer is sitting on 94 hits with 65 runs, 20 homers and 52 RBI. Carlos Correa has put up 88 hits with 46 runs, 14 hits and 57 RBI thus far.
Over on the Mariners’ side, we’ll be seeing Mike Montgomery in the starting role Sunday. In his 31 appearances (one start) this year, Montgomery has put up a 2.06 ERA with a 1.02 WHIP in 56.2 innings overall. Montgomery posted 6.1 innings of one-run ball against KC in his only start this year.
At the plate, it’s easy to find the Seattle stars. Robinson Cano is the team’s slugger on 115 hits, 21 homers, 59 RBI and 64 runs. Cano put up a hit and an RBI on Saturday. Kyle Seager is playing well on 98 hits, 54 runs, 18 homer and 61 RBI. Nelson Cruz has put up 92 hits with 55 runs, 23 homers and 58 RBI so far.
The Astros are 9-4 in their last 13 game threes of a series, and 21-5 in McHugh’s last 26 starts against the American League West. Houston is also 4-1 in McHugh’s last five starts, and 4-1 in McHugh’s last five Sunday starts.
As for the Mariners, they’re 3-8 in their last 11 Sunday games, and 1-5 in their last six game threes of a series. Seattle is also 4-14 in their last 18 against the American League West, and 3-6 in their last nine overall.
McHugh is pitching pretty well, but I’ll stick with the Mariners here.
