The New York Yankees look to continue playing spoiler in the AL East as they face off against the Baltimore Orioles at Yankee Stadium on Thursday night.
The Orioles spoiled a great opportunity to make up ground on the red Sox and Blue Jays last night and were actually overtaken by the Sox after dropping their outing by a 5-0 final at Yankee Stadium. Baltimore has been able to cover up their holes in the starting rotation with their powerful lineup that is led by Mark Trumbo and Manny Machado but as teams start to sort them out and the playoffs fast approaching it is clear that Dan Duquette needs to sort out a plan for their sluggish rotation aside from their ace in Chris Tillman. The O’s will send Tillman to the mound in this one as he will face off against CC Sabathia who has enjoyed a nice rebound season and while his Yankees haven’t been able to pay back the effort and propel themselves into a playoff spot, there is still plenty of time left in the season for them to make a run.

New York has fallen short of expectations and are considered an afterthought in the race for the AL East crown but they can still create some headaches for their division rivals and certainly did so last night against the O’s. However, there are very fast winds swirling through the Big Apple right now and a lot of them sound like some big trades upcoming as names like Aroldis Chapman, Andrew Miller, and Carlos Beltran are all rumored to be on the way out and that would certainly derail any chance the Bombers have of getting back in the mix. Sabathia will look to outduel Tillman here in what is a very winnable game for the Yanks despite Tillman having a very impressive 13-2 mark this season.
The O’s are 8-3 in their last 11 against the AL East, 11-1 in Tillman’s last 12 against the AL East, and 7-0 in his last seven starts against a team with a winning record while the Yanks are 4-1 in their last five against a righty, 5-2 in their last seven overall, and 41-16 in their last 57 games during game four of a series. This is going to be another great battle and while Tillman is 13-2 on the year I think he has gotten lucky and the Yanks right the ship here at a nice price.
