The Tampa Bay Rays visit Oakland Coliseum to begin a series with the Oakland Athletics.
The Tampa Bay Rays are stuck in the American League East basement as they have struggled for consistency at the plate. The Rays were dominant in all areas of an 11-3 rout of Colorado Wednesday which gave the team wins in three of four. TB starter Chris Archer improved to 5-13 with a pair of runs scoring on four hits over six frames. Tampa Bay pounded out 16 hits and walked four times with Tim Beckham, Steven Souza Jr. and Steve Pearce knocking in two runs each with every starter but one reaching base. Left hander Matt Moore toes the rubber against the Athletics hoping for more run support. Moore has suffered back to back defeats with just four runs allowed and two runs of support.

The Oakland Athletics have been playing well the past week although they are probably not going anywhere. The Athletics had won four of five before looking out of gas in a 7-0 defeat to the visiting Astros on Wednesday afternoon. A’s starter Daniel Mengden fell to 1-5 with three runs on five hits and five bases on balls through five innings before Patrick Schuster giving up four runs in two frames. Oakland was held to four hits and a pair of free passes with Josh Reddick smacking a double and single. The Athletics hand the ball to Sonny Gray for Thursday’s outing versus the visiting Rays. Gray comes off of a 5-4 win versus Toronto with three runs allowed on six hits and four BB in six frames.
Tampa Bay are 8-22 in their last 30 games on grass and are 7-19 in their last 26 road games while going 16-38 in their last 54 overall. The Athletics are 4-11 in their last 15 Thursday games. The Rays are 21-48 in the last 69 meetings in Oakland. I’ll take Oakland but I won’t pay a lot…
