The Washington Nationals look to build on their big tin victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers last night as the teams face off again on Thursday in DC.
The Dodgers took one on the chin last night as they were trounced to the tune of an 8-1 loss in Washington yesterday and to add injury to insult it was learned that they may be without Clayton Kershaw for the rest of the season as his bad back continues to plague his return. The Dodgers will turn to Julio Urias in this spot, and while he has been touted as the nnext big pitching prospect he hasn’t quite lived up to that billing and now he has to go head to head with a former top end prospect who has lived up to the hype as Stephen Strasburg looks to stay unbeaten. The Dodgers head into tonight’s game with a very respectable 53-42 record and are right in the mix in the National League West race with the San Francisco Giants and if they can get a win here against Strasburg and the Nats they could be in good shape as the weekend approaches.

The Nationals meanwhile are playing their way into top spot in the NL East division and could very well land the top seed in the NL if they can chase down the Giants and Cubs and with their rotation being what it is I wouldn’t want to face them in a playoff series. Washington has a very solid lineup as well as Daniel Murphy has been an excellent addition after coming over from the Mets in the offseason and with he and Bryce Harper anchoring the offense they are a very well balanced team that can beat you in a number of different ways. The Nats will look to give their ace another solid outing as Strasburg gets the call on the bump and while the odds are chalky it is for good reason as they are the better team and have a huge pitching edge.
The Dodgers are 10-1 in their last 11 against the NL East, 4-0 in Urias’ last four starts, and 5-2 in their last seven overall while the Nats are 5-2 in their last seven overall, 15-6 in their last 21 home games, but 0-6 in their last six against the NL West. The Dodgers are actually a pretty solid live dog here as they are getting ridiculous odds but the Nats seem to be on a different planet when Straburg pitches and that should continue here.
