The New York Mets travel to the Sunshine State to battle the Miami Marlins for 2nd in the NL East.
The New York Mets have to work cut out for them if they expect to snag back to back National League East crowns. The Mets have been looking for consistency and didn’t find it in a 6-2 loss at Wrigley Field on Wednesday. NYM starter Bartolo Colon was charged with all six runs on eight hits including a pair of homers over 4.1 frames to fall to 8-5. New York logged nine hits and two bases on balls with Wilmer Flores cracking a two run homer in the 8th that scored Jose Reyes. The Mets hand the ball to Logan Verrett who continues to fill in for the injured Matt Harvey. Verrett has gone 3-6 overall with a 1.48 WHIP and 4.21 ERA covering 62 innings.

The Miami Marlins are trying to hold on to second in the National League East while fighting for a Wild Card. The Marlins have been doing their part with wins in eight of eleven after routing Philadelphia 9-3 Thursday. Fish starter Tom Koehler was at his best with all three runs allowed (one earned) through eight innings. Miami amassed 16 hits with Christian Yelich going deep and scoring twice while Marcell Ozuna drove in two and scored. Overall, every starter recorded at least one hit. The Marlins open the series with visiting New York with Adam Coley on the mound. Conley is trying to establish consistency going forward with a 6-5 record and 3.61 ERA.
The under is 16-5 in the Mets last 21 road games and is 21-7-1 in their last 29 overall while going 21-7-1 in their last 29 on grass. Miami are 7-2 in their last 9 overall and are 7-2 in their last 9 games on grass. I’ll side with the hot team here…
