Coming up in MLB action on Sunday, the San Francisco Giants and the New York Yankees will be wrapping up their weekend series at Yankee Stadium.
This will be the third game of the set. In Friday’s game one, the Yankees eked out a 3-2 victory. On Saturday, the Giants eked out a 12-inning, 2-1 victory of their own.

For Sunday’s game, the Giants will be rolling with right-hander Jeff Samardzija, who was pushed back from Saturday’s game. Over his 19 starts and 9-5 record this year, Samardzija has put up a 4.05 ERA with a 1.21 WHIP. During his last start in San Diego, Samardzija put up five innings with four earned on five hits for a no-decision.
Helping out at the plate, the San Francisco hitters are a pretty tight bunch. Brandon Belt sits on top with 94 hits, 46 runs, 10 homers and 47 RBI. Brandon Crawford is right there as well on 90 hits with 39 runs, nine homers and 61 RBI. Buster Posey is hitting well these days on 90 hits with 54 runs, 12 homers and 44 RBI. Posey and Crawford combined to go 0-for-10 on Saturday.
Over on the Yankees side, we’ll be getting another look at RHP Nathan Eovaldi. In his 20 appearances (17 starts) and 8-6 record this year, Eovaldi has put up a 4.93 ERA with a 1.37 WHIP in 104 innings. Eovaldi picked up a win in his last start against the Orioles with 5.1 innings, four hits and one earned.
The veteran New York lineup has been hitting pretty well lately. Carlos Beltran has come on with 100 hits, 46 runs, 20 homers and 61 RBI. Starlin Castro has hit 95 times with 37 runs, 11 homers and 38 RBI. Didi Gregorius holds 97 hits with 43 runs, 11 homers and 41 RBI so far.
The Giants are 6-1 in their last six Sunday games, and 17-5 in their last 22 game threes of a series. San Francisco is also 2-4 in their last six interleague road games, and 1-6 in their last seven overall.
As for the Yankees, they’re 5-1 in their last six game threes of a series, and 5-1 in Eovaldi’s last six home starts. New York is also 12-3 in Eovaldi’s last 15 starts in game three of a series, and 1-4 in Eovaldi’s last five starts overall.
This one should be another great game to watch, but I’ll give the Yankees a slight edge for the finale.
