The Philadelphia Phillies battle instate rival the Pittsburgh Pirates in Sunday action.
The Philadelphia Phillies appear to have a decent pitching staff but their offense is fortunate to score four runs. Both the arms and bats fell short in a 7-4 loss at PNC Park Saturday with Phillies starter Aaron Nola charged with six runs on six hits and two BB over four frames to fall to 5-9. The Phils pounded out 12 hits and walked three times with Cesar Hernandez driving in two while Odubel Herrera going 3-4 with a pair of runs. The Phillies have scheduled Vince Valasquez for his first career start against Pittsburgh on Sunday. Valasquez did not receive a decision in a 2-1 loss to Miami with the pen and bats not providing support.

The Pittsburgh Pirates have been playing .500 baseball over the last few weeks which has dropped them to third in the in the National League Central. The Pirates took a step in the right direction with Saturday’s victory but the wins need to come in bunches. Buccos starter Tyler Glasgow gave up a pair of runs (one earned) through three innings before the bats took control. Pittsburgh mustered eight hits and two BB with Gregory Polanco driving in two and scoring while David Freese knocked in two more. Rookie Jameson Taillon makes his 7th start of the season and first versus visiting Philadelphia. Taillon comes off a no decision in a 3-2 versus Milwaukee where he gave up a run on five hits in six frames.
The under is 7-1 in Philadelphia’s last 8 overall and is 7-1 in their last 8 on grass while the Phillies are 6-2 in their last 8 road games. The over is 26-12 in the Pirates last 38 home games while Philadelphia are 4-11 in the last 15 meetings. I am going with the Pirates but I hope I’m wrong…
