As for the Astros, they just finished up against the Angels in their last series. Houston won Friday and Saturday, then in Sunday’s finale Houston destroyed L.A. 13-3.
Pitching for the Yankees on Monday will be RHP Michael Pineda. Over his 19 starts and 4-9 record this year, Pineda owns a 5.25 ERA with a 1.35 WHIP in 106.1 innings total. In his last outing against the Orioles, Pineda put up a win with six innings, five hits and no earned.
New York’s hitters have been getting it done lately, without much fanfare. Carlos Beltran has hit 102 times with 48 runs, 21 homers and 62 RBI. Beltran slapped a solo homer on Sunday. Didi Gregorius holds 98 hits with 43 runs, 11 homers and 42 RBI. Starlin Castro sits on 96 hits with 37 runs, 11 homers and 38 RBI so far in 2016.
Over on the Astros side, we’ll be seeing LHP Dallas Keuchel on Monday. Over 20 starts and a 6-9 record this season, Keuchel owns a 4.70 ERA with a 1.36 WHIP in 126.1 innings overall. Keuchel took a no-decision in his last turn, giving up five hits and two earned in 6.1 innings against the A’s.
Hitting for the Astros, we’ve got a pretty good group of guys up top. Jose Altuve has hit a whopping 139 times with 75 runs, 17 homers and 60 RBI. Altuve bagged a pair of homers and six RBI on Sunday. George Springer has 103 hits with 71 runs, 21 homers and 60 RBI. Carlos Correa has 97 hits to his credit alongside 50 runs, 15 homers and 64 RBI thus far.
The Yankees are 5-1 in Pineda’s last six starts with four days’ rest, and 5-1 in Pineda’s last six Monday starts. New York is also 4-1 in Pineda’s last five starts versus the American League West, and 1-5 in PIneda’s last six road starts versus a team with a winning record.
As for the Astros, they’re 7-2 in their last nine game ones of a series, and 5-2 in their last seven Monday games. Houston is also 4-1 in Keuchel’s last five Monday starts, and 24-6 in Keuchel’s last 30 home starts.
This looks like a nice pitching matchup, so I’ll take the under. I’ll give Keuchel and the Astros a slight advantage, though.
