Coming up on Wednesday morning from Progressive Field, we’ve got the finale of this week’s match-up between the Washington Nationals and the Cleveland Indians.
This will be game two of a quick set. In Tuesday’s opener, the Indians managed a walk-off win 7-6 despite playing pretty badly overall.
USA TODAY Sports
Pitching for the Nationals on Wednesday will be Stephen Strasburg. In his 18 games and stellar 13-1 record this year, Strasburg has posted a 2.83 ERA with a 1.00 WHIP in 120.2 innings overall. Strasburg put up his first loss of the year in his last outing, allowing seven hits with six runs against the Dodgers in six innings.
Backing things up at the plate, we’ve got a nice crew of Washington hitters, though. Daniel Murphy has been great on 127 hits with 59 runs, 19 homers and 74 RBI this year. Wilson Ramos has put up 103 hits with 44 runs, 15 homers and 54 RBI overall. Ramos hit a solo homer on Tuesday. Anthony Rendon is sitting on 91 hits with 59 runs, 12 homers and 38 RBI.
Over on the Indians side, we’ll be getting another look at right-hander Carlos Carrasco on Wednesday. Over 14 starts and a 7-3 record this year, Carrasco has put up a 2.31 ERA with a 1.03 WHIP in 85.2 innings of work. In his last start against the Royals in KC, Carrasco managed six innings with one hit and no earned in a victory.
Helping out with things at the plate, Cleveland has a solid group of bats as well. Francisco Lindor has put up 116 hits with 68 runs, 12 homers and 50 RBI. Jason Kipnis holds 109 hits with 57 runs, 16 homers and 52 RBI so far. Jose Ramirez has logged 92 hits with 48 runs and 41 RBI for his part.
The Nationals are 4-0 in their last four game twos of a series, and 81-37 in their last 118 Wednesday games. Washington is also 9-1 in Strasbourg’s last 10 road starts, and 11-1 in Strasbourg’s last 12 game twos of a series.
As for the Indians, they’re 8-2 in their last 10 game twos of a series, and 11-5 in their last 16 Wednesday games. Cleveland is also 4-0 in Carrasco’s last four starts in game two of a series, and 6-1 in Carrasco’s last seven starts.
This should be great baseball, and I’m taking the under given the stellar pitching matchup. I’ll give the Nats a slight advantage with Strasburg here, though.
