The Oakland Athletics look to spoil the party once again in Arlington as they face off against the Texas Rangers on Wednesday.
The Athletics haven’t had a great season and will likely miss out on the AL playoffs but that hasn’t stopped them from grinding games out against some of the league’s top teams and playing the spoiler role perfectly. Oakland will likely send a few pieces packing by the trade deadline as the likes of Sean Doolittle, Josh Reddick, and others have been rumored to be on the move but the combination of who those players are remains to be seen and for the time being the A’s will continue to play their scrappy style of baseball. Oakland will have their work cut out for them here against Yu Darvish who will look to improve to 3-2 and lower his ERA from 3.12 as he faces off against Sean Manaea who is 3-5 with a 4.61 mark.

The Rangers meanwhile are in a bit of a funk right now as they are 4-6 in their last 10 games and their lead in the AL West has been trimmed to just 3.5 games over the Houston Astros who are quickly closing the gap and could very well emerge as the team to beat in the West. Texas is still a very impressive 58-43 and are tied for the most wins in the American League and have a huge mismatch on the mound in this one as Darvish looks to regain his ace status and follow suit alongside Cole Hamels.
Oakland is 8-2 in their last 10 road games against a righty, 0-4 in Manaea’s last four road starts, and 2-7 in their last nine road games while the Rangers are 6-13 in their last 19 overall, 57-27 in their last 84 home games, and and 2-5 in their last seven Wednesday games. Oakland got a win last night but they face a different monster here as Darvish and the Rangers cruise.
