Miller Park and the Milwaukee Brewers host the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday night.
The Pittsburgh Pirates need wins to fight off the competition for the Wild Card. The Pirates have been doing their part lately with wins in three of four after downing Seattle 10-1 on Wednesday behind dominant pitching and hitting. Buccos starter Gerrit Cole had his best stuff with a complete game effort to even his record at 6-6. Pittsburgh amassed 14 hits with Andrew McCutchen going 3-5 with a homer, four RBI’s and two runs while Jung Ho Kang drove in four and Jordy Mercer scored three times. Rookie Stephen Brault makes his second career start on Friday at Milwaukee. Brault did not get a decision in a 5-2 win at St. Louis with two runs allowed (one earned) on five hits and four BB over four innings.

The Milwaukee Brewers are going nowhere in 2016 but could decide who does with plenty of games left versus the Cubs, Cards and Pirates. The Brewers looked flat early on Thursday but recovered to down visiting Arizona 6-4. Brew Crew starter Zach Davies improved to 8-4 with three runs allowed (two earned) on six hits through 6.1 innings. Milwaukee posted seven hits and walked four times with Kirk Nieuwenhuis going solo while Hernan Perez going deep with two RBI’s and a pair of runs. Keon Broxton knocked in a pair with everyone reaching base but Davies.Milwaukee hands the ball to rookie Junior Guerra Friday for his second meeting with the Pirates in 2016. Guerra has gone 6-2 in 15 outings with a 1.09 WHIP and 2.85 ERA.
Pittsburgh are 8-3 in their last 11 road games and the over is 16-7 in their last 23 Friday games while the Pirates are 43-20 in their last 63 Friday games. Milwaukee are 2-6 in their last 8 Friday games and the under is 5-2-2 in their last 9 home games while going 6-1-1 in Guerra’s last 8 home starts. The over is 10-3 in the last 13 meetings. The Pirates are better but I know more about Guerra then Brault…
