The St. Louis Cardinals shoot for a series ending win at the Miami Marlins Sunday afternoon.
The St. Louis Cardinals have been playing well but I don’t think ‘playing well’ will catch he Cubs. The one thing I always say about the Cardinals is they not show up at times and Saturday was one of those times in an 11-0 defeat at Miami. Cards starter Jaime Garcia was charged with six runs on seven hits over 3.1 frames with Tyler Lyons giving up two before Jerome Williams allowed three unearned runs. St. Louis mustered six hits and walked three times with Kolton Wong going 2-4. Carlos Martinez toes the rubber against the Marlins for the first time this year. Martinez has been hot lately with three straight victories with a 2.66 ERA and 1.29 WHIP.

The Miami Marlins goal is to hold on to second in the National League East and grab a Wild Card. The Marlins had lost back to back games before putting together a complete game at the plate and on the mound. Fish starter Collin Rea threw 3.1 scoreless innings with four relievers keeping the Redbirds off the scoreboard. Miami pounded out 12 hits and walked three times with Marcell Ozuna going deep with two RBI’s and two runs followed by Martin Prado, Christian Yelich and Jeff Mathis with two runs knocked in apiece. Tom Koehler will be shooting for win number three in a row when he opposes the Cardinals Sunday. Koehler has allowed one run In back to back starts versus the Phillies.
The over is 18-7-2 in the Cardinals last 27 Sunday games and are 20-8 in their last 28 road games while the under is 7-0-1 in Martinez’s last 8 on grass. The over is 7-3 in Koehler’s last 10 Sunday starts. St. Louis are 9-3 in the last 12 meetings and are 35-17 in the last 52 meetings in Miami. I think the Cardinals have the edge with Martinez but I rarely put money on this team…
