The Pittsburgh Pirates are nearing the point in the season where they need to string wins together. The Pirates struggled at the plate and the pen couldn’t control Milwaukee in a 5-3 defeat Saturday. Buccos starter Jameson Taillon allowed two runs over six frames with Arquimedes Caminero giving up two more and Neftali Feliz, one. Pitt totaled eight hits and three walks with Gregory Polanco going solo with Jung Ho Kang and Jordy Mercer driving in runs. Left hander Francisco Liriano gets the ball in the final game of the series at Milwaukee on Sunday. The Milwaukee Brewers have been playing well and have been a perfect spoiler so far. The Brewers were spoilers again on Saturday and have won five of six after receiving plenty of offense and an unexpected boost on the mound. Brew Crew starter Chase Anderson gave up an unearned run through five innings to pick up the victory while the bats pounded out 12 hits. The Brewers saw Kirk Nieuwenhuis go solo with Hernan Perez going 3-4 with a long ball and three RBI’s while Jonathan Villar scored twice. The Brewers have scheduled Matt Garza to take the mound against visiting Pittsburgh Sunday. Garza comes off a 9-4 win against Arizona where he gave up three runs on five hits in six frames.
The over is 7-1 in Pittsburgh’s last 8 Sunday games and the Pirates are 8-1 in Liriano’s last 9 Sunday starts while going 3-8 in Liriano’s last 11 starts. The over is 18-7-1 in Garzas’s last 26 home starts. The over is 10-4 in the last 14 meetings and Pittsburgh are 7-3 in the last 10 meetings. The numbers say over but I have this at around eight so take that for what it’s worth…
