The New York Yankees and New York Mets continue their series at Citi Field on Tuesday after a tightly contested outing to kick things off last night.
The Yankees look to continue to play spoiler as they face off against Jacob deGrom and the Mets on Tuesday as they send Masahiro Tanaka to the mound and while many have written the Pinstripers off thanks to their recent trades, they continue to play well and could sneak into a wild card spot. The Yanks have shipped out Aroldis Chapman, Andrew Miller, Carlos Beltran, and Ivan Nova and have basically surrendered this season as they look to the future and it is very bright as they stockpiled a ton of guys in the aforementioned transactions. The Yanks do get their best pitcher on the mound here but they have to deal with deGrom who is looking to make a statement as the Mets make a push for the playoffs, and without Beltran in the lineup their offense looks like it will be a big stagnant the rest of the way.

The Mets meanwhile have been ugly at home of late and it could end up costing them a spot in the postseason as they battle with the Nationals and Marlins in the NL East and a slew of other teams in the wild card hunt. New York did make a move as they went out and grabbed highly sought after outfielder Jay Bruce which brings a ton of power at the dish and that is exactly what the Mets need right now as they have been woeful at the plate and their offense is the scapegoat for their disappointing season. Tanaka has dominated the Mets in this series but he will have to face Bruce and a group of motivated batsmen that will be out for blood against their cross town rivals.
The Yankees are 7-1 in Tanaka’s last eight starts on grass, 5-2 in Tanaka’s last seven road starts, and 7-3 in their last 10 interleague road games while the Mets are 2-8 in their last 10 home games, 1-4 in deGrom’s last five Tuesday starts, and 3-8 in their last 11 Tuesday games. As mentioned, Tanaka has dominated the Mets but in these circumstances I think the home side gets a much needed win as their offense gets a spark while the Yanks took a big hit after yesterday’s trade deadline.
