Headed our way on Wednesday, the MLB is bringing us another installment of the series between the Texas Rangers and the Baltimore Orioles from Oriole Park.
This will be game two of the set. In Tuesday’s opener, Baltimore cruised to a 5-1 victory.
USA TODAY Sports
Taking the mound for the Rangers on Tuesday will be lefty Cole Hamels. In his 21 games and 12-2 record this year, Hamels owns a 2.84 ERA with a 1.26 WHIP in 133.1 innings. Bagging a win in his last time out against the Royals, Hamels put up eight innings with six hits and two earned.
At the plate, we’ve got a few notable hitters for Texas. Ian Desmond leads the way with his 125 hits, 75 runs, 20 homers and 63 RBI. Rougned Odor has hit 111 times with 64 runs, 21 homers and 54 RBI. Adrian Beltre has put up 106 hits with 54 runs, 16 homers and 65 RBI. Desmond, Odor and Beltre combined to go 0-for-11 on Tuesday.
Over on the Orioles’ side, we’ll be seeing RHP Kevin Gausman. In his 18 starts and 2-8 record this year, Gausman owns a 4.18 ERA with a 1.32 WHIP in 103.1 innings. In a loss his last time out, Gausman put up just three innings, six hits and six earned against the Blue Jays.
It’s pretty easy to find the stars in the Baltimore lineup. Manny Machado has hit 123 times with 71 runs, 22 homers and 58 RBI. Jonathan Schoop holds 114 hits with 57 runs, 17 homers and 59 RBI. Mark Trumbo is sitting on 111 hits with 58 runs, 30 homers and 75 RBI so far. Trumbo and Schoop combined 0-for-6 on Tuesday, though.
The Rangers are 37-15 in their last 52 game twos of a series, and 0-4 in their last four Wednesday games. Texas is also 10-1 in Hamels’ last 11 starts in game two of a series, and 5-1 in Hamels’ last six road starts.
As for the Orioles, they’re 5-0 in their last five home games versus a left-handed starter, and 7-3 in Gausman’s last 10 home starts. Baltimore is also 4-14 in Gausman’s last 18 starts versus a team with a winning record, and 1-7 in Gausman’s last eight starts versus the American League West.
I don’t think Hamels will have a whole lot of trouble here, so I like the Rangers to get out to an early lead and hold it for a win.
