The Chicago White Sox look to build on their big win on the road against the surging Tigers yesterday as they face off against the Baltimore Orioles at the Cell on Friday.
The Orioles look to figure out their road woes in a pivotal series for them in the Windy City over the weekend as they are now in a dead heat with the Blue Jays in the AL East standings despite holding two games in hand. The O’s have been pretty steady across the board this season and are lights out when playing at Camden Yards but their road woes have been well documented as they are 22-29 away from home this season and it could end up costing them the division. Baltimore though has a ton of weapons at their disposal as the likes of Adam Jones, Manny Machado, and Mark Trumbo can all mash and if they can get to Miguel Gonzalez early they will be in their comfort zone despite having Yovani Gallardo pitching tonight who is 3-3 with a 5.70 ERA.

The White Sox have been as inconsistent as they come this season but they did get a huge win against the Tigers yesterday afternoon at Comerica behind another strong outing from Jose Quintana and they will look to parlay that into a series win against the Orioles as they approach the .500 mark. Chicago may have spoiled their chance at making the postseason but they do still have time and if they can get their bats moving at a more urgent pace they could surprise people as guys like Todd Frazier and Jose Abreu have some serious pop.
The O’s are 20-7 in their last 27 against the AL Central, 2-7 in their last nine road games, and 6-0 in Gallardo’s last six starts against a team with a losing record while the White Sox are 2-6 in their last eight overall, 7-3 in their last 10 against the AL East, and 0-5 in their last five Friday games. Despite Baltimore struggling on the road this season I see this as a spot they absolutely need to win as they are a better team than the Sox and can feel the Jays breathing down their necks.
