Coming our way on Saturday in MLB action from PNC Park, the Cincinnati Reds and the Pittsburgh Pirates will be picking up their series.
This will be the second installment of the set. In Friday’s game one, the Pirates eked out a 3-2 win.
USA TODAY Sports
RHP Homer Bailey will be getting the start on Saturday. In his lone game this year, Bailey looked pretty good with 5.2 innings in a win against the Padres, allowing two earned on four hits in 5.2 innings. Bailey was sidelined for much of the year with an elbow injury.
The Reds hitters have a few aces up their sleeves. Brandon Phillips has hit 105 times with 48 runs, 41 RBI and six homers. Joey Votto holds 104 hits with 66 runs, 18 homers and 54 RBI. Vote managed a hit on Friday, going 1-for-3.
Over on the Pirates side, we’ll be seeing former Yankee Ivan Nova, who will be making his Pittsburgh debut here. In his 21 games (15 starts) and 7-6 record this year, Nova holds a 4.90 ERA with a 1.36 WHIP in 97.1 innings.
Pittsburgh has a few nice hitters as well. Starling Marte has hit 120 times with 58 runs and 37 RBI. Jody Mercer has 98 hits with 44 runs and 39 RBI. Gregory Polanco has hit 98 times with 58 runs, 15 homers and 56 RBI.
The Reds are 17-36 in their last 53 game twos of a series, and 2-5 in their last seven Saturday games. Cincinnati is also 1-4 in Bailey’s last five road starts, and 0-5 in Bailey’s last five Saturday starts.
As for the PIrates, they’re 2-4 in their last six against the National League Central and 2-5 in their last seven overall. Pittsburgh is also 2-5 in their last seven games on grass and 2-6 in their last eight games against a right-handed starter.
This is a tough one, but I’ll go with Nova and the Pirates here. Nova will want to impress in his team debut.
