Heading our way in MLB action on Tuesday evening, we’ve got the opener of a quick series between the Cleveland Indians and the Washington Nationals.
The Indians are coming off a weekend series against the Yankees. Cleveland dropped the first game but came back to win the second. The Indians then dropped the series with a loss Sunday.
USA TODAY Sports
As for the Nationals, they took two of three from the Giants over the weekend, eking out a 1-0 win on Sunday.
Pitching for the Indians on Tuesday will be right-hander Trevor Bauer. In his 24 games (17 starts) and 7-5 record this year, Bauer owns a 4.08 ERA with a 1.34 WHIP in 119 innings. Bauer got beat up in his last outing with eight hits and seven earned in just 2.2 innings.
Fortunately, the Indians bring a little power to the plate. Francisco Lindor holds 129 hits with 73 runs, 13 homers and 55 RBI. Jason Kipnis is right behind on 120 hits with 64 runs, 19 homers and 61 RBI. Jose Ramirez has 111 hits with 55 runs and 44 RBI.
Taking the hill for the Nationals on Tuesday will be Max Scherzer. In his 23 starts and 12-6 record this year, Scherzer owns a 2.87 ERA with a 0.93 WHIP. In his last start—a win over Arizona—Scherzer put up eight innings with four hits and three earned.
The Indians are 5-0 in their last five interleague road games, and 5-1 in their last six Tuesday games. Cleveland is also 1-5 in their last six road games, and 7-3 in Bauer’s last 10 interleague starts.
As for the Nationals, they’re 5-1 in their last six overall, and 10-4 in their last 14 against the American League Central. Washington is also 5-2 in their last seven games following a win, and 2-5 in their last seven Tuesday games.
With Scherzer on the mound, I find it hard to pick against Washington here. I’ll take the Nats.
