The New York Mets need a win against the San Diego Padres on Saturday to keep their playoff hopes alive.
The San Diego Padres in my view are a team that needs to wipe the slate clean and rebuild the team from scratch. The Padres bats came up big Friday in an 8-6 win at Citi Field. SD starter Paul Clemens gave up three runs over five frames before Buddy Baumann allowed three runs without recording an out. San Diego did their damage on six hits and a trio of BB with Christian Bethancourt and Jabari Blash going deep while Ryan Schimpf hammered two long balls. San Diego has named Jarred Cosart as the game two starter versus the Mets Saturday. Cosart comes off of a 6-5 defeat to Philadelphia with five runs given up on ten hits over five innings.

The New York Mets have been hurt by injuries which has reduced them to a .500 club. The Mets slide continued Friday night despite a rare show of offense as starter Logan Verrett put his team behind the eight ball early with all eight runs plated on six hits and three free passes including four long balls through 2.2 innings. The NYM managed eight hits and three walks with Travis d’Arnaud going deep, driving in two and scoring twice while Matt Reynolds drove in a run and scored. The Mets hand the ball to Jacob deGrom Saturday who hasn’t seen the Padres since last year. DeGrom has won back to back contests with a run given up on eleven hits and three BB in 13.2 frames.
San Diego are 4-12 in their last 16 road games and are 6-2 in their last 8 Saturday games. The Mets are 3-12 in their last 15 home games and the over is 11-5-1 in their last 17 Saturday games while the under is 9-3 in deGroms last 12 on grass. The over is 7-3 in the last 10 meetings. If the Mets are going to win one this is it but this is a team in trouble…
