The Chicago Cubs look to build on their impressive home win yesterday against the Milwaukee Brewers as the two sides meet up again on Wednesday.
The Brewers continue their series on the road at Wrigley Field on Wednesday night as they will have to contend with Jon Lester in this one who is having a very nice season in a loaded Chicago rotation and gets the benefit of having one of the best rosters in baseball batting for him. The brew Crew meanwhile are playing out the string of their regular season as they will turn their focus to the offseason in hopes of overhauling their roster and with some pieces they acquired at the trade deadline and some retainers that will be a part of the team next season they could bounce back quicker than people anticipate. Jimmy Nelson will get he start here as he will look to shake out of an 0-5 funk and get back in the win column but it isn’t an easy task going pitch for pitch with Lester.

The Cubs meanwhile are cruising along and are almost a shoe in to lock up the top spot in the National League playoff race and they are certainly in the driver’s seat to win the NL Central. Chicago is looking to snap the infamous Curse of the Billy Goat which has extended back to 1945 and while it sounds ridiculous there are many in Chicago Cubs folklore who firmly believe it as the team has yet to qualify for a World Series since then and haven’t won it all since 1908. However, many expect this could be the best team Chicago has had in years and could be the team to reverse the curse and if the rotation and lineup can stay red hot to close out the season there isn’t any reason to believe they can’t.
The Brewers are 2-8 in Nelson’s last 10 Wednesday starts, 8-21 in their last 29 road games, and 1-6 in Nelson’s last seven road starts, while the Cubs are 11-2 in their last 13 against a righty, 22-8 in their last 30 overall, and 6-1 in their last seven during game three of a series. The Cubs are ridiculous favourites here but for good reason as Lester and the North Siders should have no issue in this one.
