Over at Yankee Stadium on Wednesday, the Toronto Blue Jays and the New York Yankees will be finishing out their MLB series.
This will be game three of the set. The Yankees eked out a 1-0 win on Monday, and on Tuesday the Jays scored eight times in the eighth inning on the way to a 12-6 romp.
USA TODAY Sports
Taking the hill for the Blue Jays on Wednesday will be lefty JA Happ. In his 23 starts and 16-3 record this year, Happ owns a 2.96 ERA with a 1.14 WHIP in 143 innings. Happ logged six innings with four hits and no earned against the Rays his last time out for a win.
The Blue Jays have no shortage of plate talent. Josh Donaldson has logged 130 hits with 28 homers, 95 runs and 80 RBI so far. Edwin Encarnacion sits on 120 hits with 75 runs, 34 homers and 100 RBI. Michael Saunders has hit 105 times with 60 runs, 20 homers and 49 RBI.
On the other side, the Yankees will be countering with left-hander CC Sabathia on Wednesday. In his 21 starts and 7-9 mark this year, Sabathia has put up a 4.20 ERA with a 1.38 WHIP in 124.1 innings. Sabathia got a win against the Rays his last time out with six innings, four hits and three earned.
The Yankees have a few notable hitters at the plate as well. Didi Gregorius sits on 117 hits with 51 runs, 15 homers and 54 RBI. Starlin Castro has hit 114 times with 47 runs and 53 RBI. Jacoby Ellsbury has put up 108 hits with 49 runs and 38 RBI for his part. ****
The Blue Jays are 13-6 in their last 19 game threes of a series, and 38-18 in their last 56 Wednesday games. Toronto is also 4-0 in Happ’s last four road starts and 4-0 in Happ’s last four starts on grass.
As for the Yankees, they’re 6-2 in their last eight games versus a left-handed starter and 5-2 in their last seven Wednesday games. New York is also 1-4 in Sabathia’s last five home starts and 1-5 in Sabathia’s last six starts against the AL East.
For some reason, the Yankees refuse to give up on the season and keep winning games. That said, I’ll take the hot-throwing Happ and the Jays here.
