The Atlanta Braves brace for a visit from the division leading Washington Nationals Thursday.
The Washington Nationals are trying to move closer to the National League East crown little by little. The Nationals took a step back from their goal after a 12-10 loss at Coors Field Wednesday where the pitching cost them with starter Stephen Strasburg getting hammered for nine runs over 1.2 frames while Oliver Perez was charged with three runs. The Nats pounded out 13 hits and walked four times with Chris Heisey, Pedro Severino going solo going solo while Bryce Harper homered and knocked in two while scoring twice. Overall, eight players drove in runs with every starter reaching base. Rookie Reynaldo Lopez makes his 4th start of the year and second straight versus the Braves. Lopez defeated the braves 7-6 with a run scoring on five hits over seven innings.

The Atlanta Braves are in a bit of a funk lately as they try to play spoiler going forward. I thought the Braves had a good chance of getting in the win column Wednesday but neither the bats or arms came through in a 10-3 loss to visiting Minnesota. Bravos starter Mike Foltynewicz gave up two runs through five frames before the game got out of reach when Eric O’Flaherty was charged with three runs with Jason Hursh getting tagged four runs in the 9th. Atlanta logged seven hits and walked three times with Freddie Freeman smacking a two run bomb while Nick Markakis went solo. The Braves hand the ball to rookie Robert Whalen for his 4th start of 2016 and second in a row versus the Nationals. Whalen lost to the Nats 7-6 with six runs given up in five frames.
The under is 10-4 in Washington’s last 14 road games and the Nationals are 9-4 in their last 13 overall while going 9-4 in their last 13 games on grass. Atlanta are 9-23 in their last 32 Thursday games and are 18-40 in their last 58 home games. Washington are 22-5 in the last 27 meetings. These are the types of games Washington loses so we’ll see…
