The Los Angeles Angels look to follow up on a nice outing last night as they host the New York Yankees for a weekend set starting Friday.
The Yankees look to continue their push at a wild card spot in the American League as they take on an Angels side that is still a scrappy team to play against despite being well back of anything significant in the AL West. The Yanks unloaded at the trade deadline and got a massive return in the process as the likes of Andrew Miller, Aroldis Chapman, and Carlos Beltran are gone and yielded some top end prospects in return and now we are seeing some top end pieces making their presence felt in the bigs led by Gary Sanchez and Aaron Judge. New York will send Masahiro Tanaka to the bump here as he aims to improve to 10-4 and lower his ERA down from 3.46 as he will go up against Jered Weaver who is 8-10 with a staggering 5.32 mark and is certainly a shadow of his former self.

The Angels meanwhile have been dismal to watch over the last couple weeks and while they have been competitive in some games they are still 1-9 in their last 10 games and head into their weekend set with the Yanks in tough shape. Los Angeles needs to regroup in the offseason and continue to build around Mike Trout as some of his best years are getting wasted in LA right now but with some bad contracts on the books they could be on the shelf for the next few seasons as they attempt to make up for it. The Angels are 20 games under .500 this season and aren’t showing signs of turning it around and with Tanaka on the hill here things don’t get any easier.
The Yanks are 12-3 in their last 15 against the AL West, 4-1 in their last five series openers, and 3-13 in their last 16 following an off day while the Angels are 11-5 in their last 16 home games, 3-13 in their last 16 overall and 0-4 in their last four Friday games. New York is still in the mix here and get their ace on the mound which is a terrible spot for the Angels even at home.
