The Detroit Tigers and Boston Red Sox take the field in the Motor City on Saturday.
The Boston Red Sox have been doing a lot of winning the past few weeks but need more to capture first in the AL East. The Red Sox had everything go their way in a 10-2 win at Detroit and have now won seven of eight. Boston starter Rick Porcello was dominant with both runs plated over seven frames. The Red Sox banged out 16 hits with David Ortiz and Jackie Bradley Jr. both going deep and driving in two runs each while Hanley Ramirez went 3-4 with four RBI’s. Left hander Drew Pomeranz draws his second start against the Tigers on Saturday. In six starts since joining the Red Sox, Pomeranz has gone 1-2 with a 1.44 WHIP and 4.59 ERA.

If the Detroit Tigers are going to stay in contention in the Wild Card then avoiding losing streaks of any length is a must. The Tigers are in a bit of a funk after struggling through Friday’s defeat to the visiting Red Sox. Tigers starter Michael Fulmer was hit hard with six runs scoring on ten hits including a pair of long balls through 5.2 innings before two relievers allowed two runs apiece. Detroit was held to four hits and two bases on balls with JD Martinez clubbing a two run homer. The Tigers send Daniel Norris to the hill Saturday to oppose the Red Sox for the first time since 2015. In his last three starts, Norris has gone 0-3 despite posting a 2.92 ERA.
The under is 15-4 in Boston’s last 19 road games and is 15-7 in their last 22 overall while going 15-7 in their last 22 on grass. The under is 6-2 in Detroit’s last 8 Saturday games and the Tigers are 3-8 in their last 11 overall while going 3-8 in their last 11 games on grass. The over is 5-1-3 in the last 9 meetings in Detroit. I give a slight nod to Pomeranz but not by a lot…
