Taking the mound for the Rangers on Saturday will be right-hander AJ Griffin. Over his 16 starts and 5-2 record this year, Griffin owns a 4.68 ERA with a 1.32 WHIP in 84.2 innings. In his last start against Detroit, Griffin took a loss with 6.2 innings, 11 hits and six earned.
It’s easy to find talent on the Texas roster. Ian Desmond has hit 143 times with 20 homers, 74 RBI and 85 runs. Rougned Odor sits on 127 hits with 71 runs, 22 homers and 61 RBI. Adrian Beltre holds 130 hits with 62 runs, 20 homers and 79 RBI.
Over on the Rays’ side, we’ll be seeing right-hander Jake Odorizzi. In his 25 starts and 7-5 record this year, Odorizzi has put up a 3.72 ERA with a 1.21 WHIP in 142.2 innings. Odorizzi bagged a win in his last start with six innings, five hits and three runs against the Yankees.
The Rays have a few notable hitters on their roster. Evan Longoria leads the charge with 135 hits, 27 homers, 73 RBI and 63 runs. Brad Miller has hit 107 times with 58 runs and 25 homers with 57 RBI. Logan Forsythe has 100 hits with 58 runs and 38 RBI so far.
The Rangers are 20-8 in their last 28 Saturday games, and 37-15 in their last 52 game twos of a series. Texas is also 7-0 in Griffins last seven starts in game two of a series, and 4-1 in Griffin’s last five road starts.
As for the Rays, they’re 5-2 in their last seven game twos of a series, and 2-9 in their last 11 Saturday games. Tampa Bay is also 7-2 in Odorizzi’s last nine starts with five days’ rest and 2-5 in Odorizzi’s last seven starts against the American League West.
I like how Odorizzi is throwing right now, so I’ll take the Rays here.
