The Cleveland Indians look to ride the wave of momentum after taking two of three from the Blue Jays as they take to the road to battle the Oakland Athletics.
The Indians got some clutch hitting and stellar pitching in their three game set with the Jays over the weekend and taking two of three from a potential playoff show down is huge as they continue their pursuit to wrap up the American League Central division. Cleveland’s next venture takes them to California as they embark on a series with the Athletics who haven’t had a great season but always seem to find a way to give teams fits and their season opener could prove difficult as they send Carlos Carrasco to the bump to face off against Andrew Triggs. The Tribe are 7-3 in their last 10 games while the A’s are a measly 2-8 across the same stretch as and such the Tribe head into this series as favourites in the opener and according to odds makers this one should be Cleveland’s game to lose as they have the edge on the bump.

The A’s meanwhile are starting to slide and while it was clear they wouldn’t be playoff bound for quite some time they usually take the stretch of the season to make life miserable for others and thrive in the spoiler role. Oakland unloaded some pieces at the trade deadline and will be fishing for some new pieces in the offseason but the same problem remains for this group as they try to bring in players on the cheap and set up a system of winning scrappy baseball games, but that hasn’t been successful recently and they may have to switch out of that philosophy if the losing continues. Triggs is 0-1 with a 4.98 ERA and he will be in tough here as Carrasco has been strong with an 8-6 mark and 3.34 ERA and makes up part of the deadliest three headed rotation in the league.
The Indians are 10-1 in their last 11 against the AL West, 6-1 in their last seven road games against a team with a losing record, and 8-3 in their last 11 overall while the A’s are 8-2 in their last 10 Monday games, 1-7 in their last eight overall, and 1-5 in their last six following a loss. Cleveland are big time favourites here and for good reason as they should have no trouble solving Triggs and getting Carrasco some run support.
