The Line: Seattle Mariners / New York Yankees --- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds
The New York Yankees look to keep their surprising playoff hopes intact as they face off against the Seattle Mariners in a pivotal show down at Safeco.
The Yankees unloaded a number of very important piece at the trade deadline as they yielded some very nice prospects for the likes of Aroldis Chapman, Andrew Miller, and Carlos Beltran yet somehow they are still in the mix for an AL wild card spot and could even go on a run to claim the AL East crown. The Yanks will send Michael Pineda to the mound here who always seems to have his pitching velocity up really high but hasn’t been able to find as much consistency as the Pinstripes brass had hoped, but perhaps a show down with his former team in Seattle is the platform for his best outing of the season in what is easily one of their biggest games of the season as the M’s are in the running for a wild card spot as well. Pineda is 6-10 with a 4.88 ERA and he will face off with Cody Martin who is 1-2 with a 3.14 mark in what should be a pretty exciting contest.

The Mariners meanwhile look to continue their ascent up the AL West standings and while it may take a miracle for them to chase down the Texas Rangers they are still very much in the running for a wild card spot. Seattle has a pretty solid roster but they will need some help getting in as they have to contend with the likes of Toronto, Boston, and Baltimore in the East and the Tigers and Royals in the Central to go along with the Astros who are chasing them in the West. Seattle will send Martin to the mound here and they will need a big outing from him as Pineda is always capable of a top end performance and getting it against his old side, as mentioned, would be the perfect chorus to his season.
New York is 4-1 in their last five road games, 7-1 in their last eight games following a loss, and 12-3 in their last 15 after scoring two runs or less in their previous game while the Mariners are 7-1 in their last eight against a righty, 12-4 in their last 16 overall, and 20-8 in their last 28 home games. This should be an exciting game but after the way the Mariners lost last night I expect them to bring more focus and energy here as they tee off on Pineda.
