The Pittsburgh Pirates and Houston Astros continue their series at PNC Park Tuesday.
The Houston Astros need a long hot streak just to keep their names in the postseason conversation. The Astros might be on their way with four straight victories after downing Pittsburgh 3-1 Monday. Stros starter Doug Fister was the star with a three hitter over seven scoreless frames to get the win. Houston managed five hits and a free pass with Teoscar Hernandez clubbing a two run homer while Alex Bregman went solo. Houston turns to rookie Joe Musgrave for his 4th start of the season when he faces Pittsburgh on Tuesday. Musgrave was hammered 13-5 at Baltimore last time out with eight runs scoring on eleven hits including three homers over 5.1 innings.

It seems each time the Pirates get hot a cold spell follows and that makes it difficult to make up ground in a playoff race. The Pirates playoff off push took another step back as the team is now staring at a four game slide with the end of the season inching closer. Pitt starter Jameson Tailon gave up a two run homer through eight innings to absorb the loss. The Buccos offense was held to five hits and a base on balls while Gregory Polanco went 2-4 with a pair of doubles and scored an un earned run. Ivan Nova will be on the mound for his 4th start since joining the Pirates. Nova did not receive a decision in a 6-5 win at San Francisco with four runs allowed on six hits in four frames.
The over is 8-1 in Houston’s last 9 on grass and the Astros are 24-10 in their last 34 interleague games while going 7-3 in their last 10 road games. The over is 8-0 in Pittsburgh’s last 8 interleague home games and is 20-8 in their last 28 interleague games while going 5-2-1 in their last 8 on grass. The Astros are 5-14 in the last 19 meetings. The Astros are playing well and hopefully it continues for another night…
