The Philadelphia Phillies have generally been all pitching and until they discover the art of hitting they won’t be a postseason contender. The Phillies have usually been dependable on the mound but were knocked around 9-1 Tuesday for consecutive defeats. Phils starter Jake Thompson was tagged for seven runs on eight hits including two homers over five frames to fall to 1-3. Philadelphia was held to five hits and a pair of bases on balls with Freddy Galvis clubbing his 13th homer. The Phillies are scheduled to start Jerad Eickoff to the hill to face the White Sox for the first time in his career. On the season, Eickhoff is 8-12 with a 1.24 WHIP and 3.91 ERA.

The Chicago White Sox aren’t going to the postseason and he goal is to take as many teams down as possible and ruin their playoff hopes. The White Sox looked like a playoff team Tuesday with quality work on the mound and at the plate. CWS starter Carlos Rodon upped his record to 4-8 with three hits given up through 6.2 scoreless innings. Chicago did plenty of damage on eleven hits and four walks with Justin Morneau going solo while Jose Abreu homered and knocked in three followed by Tim Anderson knocked in two and scored twice. James Shields toes the rubber against the Phillies for the first time since last season. Shields has struggled the past four times out with 27 runs allowed on 33 hits including nine homers in14 frames.
