The New York Mets continue their tumultuous season on the road against the St. Louis Cardinals and they will look to shake off an ugly outing yesterday at Busch Stadium.
The Mets are the reigning NL champions and are fresh off a World Series appearance and heading into this season they were expected to compete once again this season but they have been dreadful to watch of late and at this point are very unlikely to get into the playoffs at all. The Cardinals hung eight runs and 19 hits on the Mets yesterday and that was against Jacob deGrom and things don’t get any better here as the Mets are slated to start Seth Lugo who will go up against the Cards’ vet and long time ace Adam Wainwright. New York has been ripping apart the NL Central though as they are 26-9 in their last 35 against a pretty competitive block of teams that includes the Cubs, Cards, and Pirates.

The Cardinals have been a very interesting team this season as they don’t have nearly the fire power that we have seen in years past but they are still very much in the mix in the National League wild card and could even overthrow the Cubs with a magical run down the stretch. St. Louis may not have the makeup of a team destined to go on a lengthy playoff run but they have the experience to do so and if they slide into a wild card spot and are in a one game playoff they should have home field advantage and that could make all the difference in the world.
The Mets are playing to the OVER in seven of their last eight games, UNDER in five of their last seven against the NL Central and UNDER in 12 of their last 17 road games against a righty while the Cards are 6-2 in their last eight overall, 4-0 in Waino’s last four Thursday starts, and 41-18 in his last 59 home starts. The Mets’ stretch continues here as the Cards get another win with a big pitching edge.
