The Toronto Blue Jays look to extend their lead in the East with a win versus the Los Angeles Angels in Thursday action.
The Los Angeles Angels are struggling to get their arms and bats on the same page and that makes wins difficult to come by. The Angels had dropped seven of ten but put everything together in an 8-2 rout of Toronto on Tuesday. LAA starter Matt Shoemaker was outstanding with a three hit shutout over six frames. Los Angeles amassed 17 hits and six walks with Mike Trout going solo and scoring twice with Albert Pujols going 4-4 with a homer and three RBI’s while CJ Cron knocked in two. Veteran Jered Weaver makes his first start versus the Blue Jays this season. Weaver has struggled the past three times out with an 0-3 record and 2.13 WHIP with an 8.40 ERA.

The Toronto Blue Jays lead the American League East although their lead is not big. The Blue Jays took one on the chin Tuesday night and that cost them a game in the standings. Jays starter Marco Estrada was hit hard with six runs scoring on ten hits including a pair of long balls through five innings. Toronto managed nine hits and two free passes with Russell Martin and Esquiel Carrera driving in runs while Josh Donaldson and Justin Smoak scored. Left hander JA Happ toes the rubber versus the Angels for the first time on the season. Happ is enjoying a Cy Young type year with a 17-3 record and 1.14 WHIP with a 3.05 ERA.
The Angels are 5-16 in their last 21 overall and are 7-22 in their last 29 road games while the over is 6-2-1 in their last 9 Thursday games. Toronto are 6-2 in their last 8 Thursday games and the under is 13-5-1 in their last 19 Thursday games while going 14-6-1 in their last 21 overall. The over is 18-7-1 in the last 26 meetings and the Angels are 9-4 in the last 13 meetings in Toronto. Happ and the Jays is where I’m looking….
