Over at Nationals Park on Thursday, the Baltimore Orioles and the Washington Nationals will be wrapping up their mid-week MLB series.

This will be game four of the set. The Orioles took Monday and Tuesday’s games, then on Wednesday Baltimore made it three in a row with a 10-8 victory. The Nationals scored five runs in the bottom of the ninth in that one but couldn’t sustain the rally.

Taking the hill for the Orioles on Thursday will be Ubaldo Jimenez. (Chris Tillman was originally going to start here, but he’s on the DL with shoulder issues.) Jimenez holds a 6.94 ERA with a 1.91 WHIP in 94.2 innings so far this season.

The Orioles have some interesting hitters up top. Manny Machado has hit 151 times with 87 runs, 29 homers and 78 RBI. Adam Jones holds 136 hits with 74 runs, 24 homers and 74 RBI. Jonathan Schoop has hit 135 times with 68 runs, 20 homers and 67 RBI.

Over on the Nationals’ side, we’ll be seeing RHP Max Scherzer on Thursday. Over his 26 starts and 13-7 record this year, Scherzer owns a 3.05 ERA with a 0.96 WHIP in 174 innings. Scherzer got a win his last time out in Atlanta, giving up six hits and four earned in 6.1 innings.

Washington has a few notable hitters as well. Daniel Murphy has put up 155 hits with 76 runs, 24 homers and 95 RBI. Wilson Ramos holds 123 hits with 53 runs, 19 homers and 67 RBI. Anthony Rendon has 123 hits with 75 runs, 16 homers and 60 RBI.

The Orioles are 14-6 in their last 20 Thursday games, and 7-15 in their last 22 game fours of a series. Baltimore is also 7-0 in Jimenez’s last seven inter-league starts, and 1-8 in Jimenez’s last nine road starts.

Meanwhile, the Nationals are 5-1 in Scherzer’s last six starts, and 5-1 in Scherzer’s last six starts on grass. Washington is also 1-5 in Scherzer’s last six Thursday starts, and 4-1 in Scherzer’s last five starts with four days’ rest.

I like Scherzer in the pitching matchup here, so I’ll go with the Nationals all day long.
