The Chicago White Sox and Seattle Mariners meet up on Friday night in a marquee show down between two of the league’s best pitchers as King Felix faces off with Chris Sale.
The Seattle Mariners look to shake off a tough loss yesterday in which Todd Frazier ended the game in the bottom of the ninth with a walk off RBI after they put Jose Abreu on first to pitch to him but they will be in tough as Sale is world class and will be out to vindicate a couple of rough outings of late. Seattle meanwhile needs to get back in the win column and stay in the hunt for a wild card spot as the rest of the pack earned some ground last night and while Felix is usually known for his dominating outings at Safeco he is ore than capable of doing the same on the road and in a must win type game against a fellow ace he could step his game up even further.

The White Sox meanwhile are looking less and less likely to be playing meaningful baseball in a month’s time as their hot start has been spoiled by a tough stretch over the last few months and it looks like their season will finish in the middle of the pack in the AL Central. Chicago has a ton of pop in their bats and two very solid pitchers at the front of their rotation including Sale and Jose Quintana and if they can bring in some high end pieces in the offseason they could be a team to be reckoned with as early as next year. Sale is 15-6 with a 3.15 ERA while King Felix is 8-4 with a 3.26 mark in what looks like a wash on paper.
Seattle is 4-1 in their last five against the AL Central, 13-6 in their last 19 overall, and 4-0 in the King’s last four starts while the White Sox are 9-2 in Sale’s last 11 starts at home, 2-5 in his last seven overall, and 1-7 in their last eight Friday games. Sale may have the edge on Felix here but overall the Mariners are the better side and are in need of a win.
