The Tampa Bay Rays travel to Minute Maid Park to butt heads with the Houston Astros.
The Tampa Bay Rays have been out of the playoff picture for quite awhile and need to address what this team will look like in 2017. The Rays rode their pitching to a 2-1 victory versus visiting Boston and hurt the Red Sox playoff drive in the process. TB starter Jake Odorizzi was strong once again with the lone run given up on five hits and three BB over seven frames to get the win. Tampa Bay logged seven hits and a pair of free passes with Mike Mahtook and Brad Miller recording RBI’s. The Rays have scheduled Drew Smyly to open the series on the mound with Houston. Smyly comes off an 8-4 win versus Texas with all four runs scoring over 6.2 innings.

The Houston Astros remain in the postseason hunt thanks to a productive week with wins in five of six after downing Pittsburgh 5-4 on the Road Wednesday. Stros starter Collin McHugh improved to 8-10 with three runs given up on seven hits through five innings while four relievers held the Pirates under control. Houston mustered seven hits and three walks with Evan Gattis cracking a two run bomb while Carlos Correa drove in a run and scored twice. Mike Fiers toes the rubber against Tampa Bay for the second time this season. Fiers comes off a 12-2 win at Baltimore with a single run allowed on five hits in seven frames.
The over is 14-4 in Tampa Bay’s last 18 overall and are 5-17 in their last 22 games on grass while going 7-20 in their last 27 road games. Houston are 8-1 in their last 9 Friday games and the over is 9-2-1 in their last 12 on grass while going 7-2-1 in their last 10 overall. Tampa Bay are 22-7 in the last 29 meetings and the under is 25-8-2 in the last 35 meetings. I’ll try the Astros and will likely sit this out the way Smyly is throwing…
