Headed our way in MLB action from Yankee Stadium on Friday, we’ve got a series opener between the Baltimore Orioles and the New York Yankees.
The Orioles are coming off a series against the Nationals. Baltimore won the first three games of that set, and on Thursday the Orioles dropped one 4-0 which prevented the sweep.

As for the Yankees, they played the Mariners this week. New York dropped the first game but won the last two to take the series 2-1.
For Friday’s game, Baltimore will be bringing out RHP Yovani Gallardo. In his 17 starts and 4-5 record this year, Gallardo has put up a 5.08 ERA with a 1.59 WHIP in 90.1 innings. Taking a loss against Houston his last time out, Gallardo went seven innings with seven hits and three earned.
The Orioles have several enviable bats in their lineup this year. Manny Machado heads the charge on 151 hits, 87 runs, 29 homers and 78 RBI. Adam Jones isn’t far back with 137 hits, 74 runs, 24 homers and 74 RBI. Jonathan Schoop is sitting on 135 hits with 68 runs, 20 homers and 67 RBI.
Over on the Yankees’ side, we’ll be seeing RHP Luis Cessa on Friday. In his nine games (one start) and 3-0 record this season, Cessa owns a 4.01 ERA with a 1.09 WHIP in 24.2 innings. In his lone start against the Angels, Cessa was great in six innings, three hits and no earned.
New York still has some punch left in their lineup. Didi Gregorius has put up 124 hits with 53 runs, 17 homers and 57 RBI. Starlin Castro holds 123 hits with 52 runs, 17 homers and 57 RBI as well. Jacoby Ellsbury has hit 113 times with 53 runs and 42 RBI so far.
The Orioles are 5-2 in their last seven game ones of a series, and 2-8 in their last 10 against the American League East. Baltimore is also 4-2 in their last five road games and 4-2 in their last five road games versus a team with a winning home record.
The Yankees have been playing surprisingly well lately, but I don’t think they’re a match for the Orioles right now. Give me Baltimore.
