The Texas Rangers and Cleveland Indians meet up in Arlington on Friday night for the second game of a pivotal show down between two AL division leaders.
The Cleveland Indians took one on the chin last night as they kicked off their four game set with the Rangers by dropping a 9-0 decision in a game that was never in question and while it is one game of a 182-game schedule it was certainly a message sent by the home side. Cleveland is more than capable of bouncing back though as they have a versatile group and one of the best rotations in baseball and in this one they will send Corey Kluber to the mound as he will face off against Martin Perez. Cleveland has a firm grasp on the AL Central race and can basically begin their plans of preparing for playoff baseball but they are still in the hunt for the top seed in the American League and they can make up a game with a win tonight after last night’s debacle sent them back one.

The Rangers meanwhile are flying high after last night’s impressive win but they are significant underdogs at home in this one thanks to the pitching matchup favouring the Tribe. Texas made a splash at the trade deadline and are all in right now as they aim to vindicate last year’s tough playoff exit in Toronto and go even further with a trip to the World Series and with the roster they have there isn’t a whole lot to go on to prove them otherwise. However, with Perez on the mound here who is 8-9 with a 4.27 ERA and is probably the least appealing of the Rangers starting arms they are in tough as Kluber looks to dominate once again.
The Indians are 9-2 in their last 11 against the AL West, 3-8 in their last 11 road games, and 5-0 in Kluber's last five starts while the Rangers are 10-1 in Perez' last 11 home games, 12-5 in his last 17 starts overall, and 4-1 in their last five games on grass. The odds in this one are tough as Kluber should be out for a big outing against a very good Rangers side but the price is much too good to pass on for a team that just won 9-0 less than 24 hours ago.
