The Tampa Bay Rays take the field at Minute Maid Park Friday versus the Houston Astros.
The Tampa Bay Rays have been playing well the past few weeks and have been good spoilers with two wins against both Boston and Texas. The Rays two game winning streak came to an end in a 5-4 defeat at Minute Maid Park. TB starter Drew Smyly threw the ball well once again with three runs given up (two earned) over six frames with Alex Colome serving up a walk off homer in the 9th. The Rays mustered eight hits with Mike Mahtook going deep while Corey Dickerson drove in a run and scored twice. Tampa Bay sends rookie Blake Snell to the hill to face the Astros for the first time in his career. Snell comes off a 6-2 loss to Boston with two runs allowed on four hits and five BB over 3.2 innings.

The Houston Astros have been heating up the past week or so and need to stay hot to snag a Wild Card. With Friday’s victory the Astros stayed in playoff contention with wins in six of seven with some late scoring saving the day. Stros starter Mike Fiers allowed three runs with Ken Giles giving up a 9th inning run and still getting the win. Houston did their damage on five hits and three walks with Evan Gattis, Jake Marisnick and Carlos Correa each leaving the yard. Dallas Keuchel toes the rubber for the second time against Tampa Bay this season. Keuchel defeated Baltimore 5-3 last time out with two runs given up on five hits in eight frames.
Tampa Bay are 5-17 in their last 22 games on grass and are 3-9 in their last 12 Saturday games while the Rays are 7-20 in their last 27 road games. The over is 9-2-1 in Houston’s last 12 on grass and is 7-2-1 in their last 10 overall while the Astros are 2-6 in their last 8 Saturday games. Tampa Bay are 22-7 in the last 29 meetings and the under is 25-8-2 in the last 35 meetings. I’m not a fan of Keuchel so I’ll just watch…
