The Texas Rangers look to continue their dominance of the American League West as they host the Seattle Mariners again on Tuesday night.
The Mariners took one on the chin last night and are losing some pivotal ground in the race for an American League wild card spot and are now a full three games back of the Orioles for the final spot as the season draws near a close. Seattle would be a tough team to take down across a seven game series as they have the offense to compete with the game’s best and some quality front end pitching that could decide a series with a special outing but right now they are focused on getting to that point and they have some very deep company. Seattle will send James Paxton to the hill here as he attempts to stay hot after a stint on the disabled list and he will have to be sharp here as he goes up against Cole Hamels who is having himself a Cy Young type season for the AL West leading Rangers.

Texas doubled up on the M’s last night to the tune of a 6-3 final and continue their wide open lead on the rest of the pack in the division as they are 8.5 games up on the Astros for top spot and are looking like a shoe in to make this year’s playoffs. Texas acquired Hamels at last year’s trade deadline and he is having a remarkable campaign in his first full year with the team and has adjusted to life in the American League very well which is sometimes a tough transition. Hamels is 14-4 with a 2.67 ERA and is certainly among the best arms in the AL this season and he will match up with Paxton who is 4-5 with a 3.63 ERA but has been very strong of late and will be out for his best effort of the season here.
The Mariners are 1-5 in their last six games overall, 23-11 in their last 34 Tuesday games, and 7-2 in their last nine during game two of a series while the Rangers are 5-0 in their last five against the AL West, 4-1 in Hamels’ last five Tuesday starts, and 15-3 in his last 18 starts at home. The Mariners are sliding here and while the Rangers have a comfortable lead in the division I think they will be out to give Hamels a strong outing as they look to get him some hardware for his excellent season.
