The playoff hopeful Boston Red Sox look for a win versus the Tampa Bay Rays Wednesday.
If the Tampa Bay Rays continue to play spoiler as they have, the rest of the American League East is in trouble. The Ray were spoilers again Tuesday in a 4-3 victory at Fenway Park. TB starter Jake Odorizzi allowed all three runs on five hits and a pair of BB over six frames. Tampa Bay posted eight hitw and three walks with Evan Longoria going solo while Luke Malle went deep and drove in two. Left hander Drew Smyly will be on the hill to oppose the Red Sox for the second time this year. Smyly comes off a 5-4 defeat at Houston with three runs given up (two earned) over six innings.

The Boston Red Sox to string wins together to challenge for the postseason or they could be in trouble. The Red Sox took a step back with Tuesday night’ loss to visiting Tampa Bay. Boston starter Drew Pomeranz gave up three runs on five hits through 6.2 innings before Clay Buchholz gave up the decider. The Red Sox mustered six hits and walked twice with Hanley Ramirez going 3-4 with a homer and two RBI’s with a pair of runners left on base in the 9th. Steven Wright is scheduled to be on the mound for the first time in his career against Tampa Bay. Wright absorbed a 6-3 loss to the Royals last time out with five runs given up in six frames.
Tampa Bay are 6-20 in their last 26 games on grass and are 7-22 in their last 29 road games while the over is 19-7 in their last 26 overall. Boston are 10-4 in their last 14 games on grass and are 6-2 in Wright’s last 8 starts while going 6-2 in Wright’s last 8 starts on grass. The Rays are 2-6 in the last 8 meetings. Wright is making his second start since coming off the DL so I have no clue what to expect…
