Taking the mound for the White Sox Wednesday will be lefty Chris Sale. In his 25 starts and 15-7 record this year, Sale owns a 3.14 ERA and a 1.00 WHIP in 177.2 innings. In his last start, Sale put up a complete-game loss against Seattle, allowing five hits and three runs.
The White Sox have a few interesting bats in their order. Jose Abreu has posted 144 hits with 51 runs and 73 RBI. Adam Eaton has hit 139 times with 68 runs, 140 hits and 46 runs. Melky Cabrera sits on 136 hits with 53 runs and 60 RBI.
Over on the Tigers’ side, we’ll be seeing RHP Justin Verlander on Wednesday. In his 27 starts and 14-7 record, Verlander holds a 3.33 ERA with a 1.02 WHIP in 181 innings. Verlander got a 7.2 inning win against the Angels his last time up, giving up four hits and two earned.
Detroit has some interesting hitters up top as well. Miguel Cabrera has hit 151 times with 72 runs, 28 homers and 81 RBI. Ian Kinsler holds 143 hits with 96 runs, 24 homers and 70 RBI. Victor Martinez has hit 139 times with 55 runs, 23 homers and 75 RBI.
The White Sox are 4-9 in their last 13 game threes of a series, and 1-5 in their last six Wednesday games. Chicago is also 1-4 in Sale’s last five road starts, and 0-4 in Sale’s last four starts against a team with a winning record.
Meanwhile, the Tigers are 2-6 in their last eight game threes of a series, and 1-4 in their last five games against a left-handed starter. Detroit is also 4-1 in Verlander’s last five home starts, and 5-2 in Verlander’s last seven starts overall.
I like both pitchers here, so I’ll go with the under for this one. I’ll give Detroit a slight edge as well, but really this is anyone’s ballgame.
