The San Francisco Giants look to get back in the win column as they continue their road set against the Chicago Cubs on Friday.
The Giants have really taken a swan dive since the all-star break and while they are likely to still slip into the playoffs thanks to a great start to the season they haven’t looked the part of World Series contender over the last couple of months and will need to break out of this funk if they’re going to do anything come playoff time. They are in a pivotal series here with the Cubs in what could be a confidence boosting victory here for the Giants but they don’t have a great matchup on the mound as they will send Albert Suarez to the hill as he will go up against Jon Lester who continues to be one of the best in the NL.

The Cubs have been world beaters all season long and look like a shoe in to take down baseball’s best record in what could end up being a very special season for the North Siders who look to end their miraculous World Series drought. Chicago is coming off a win yesterday to open this series in what was a very exciting and hard fought battle between two great teams but it is the visitors here who are becoming desperate as they are now chasing down their arch rivals to guarantee a playoff spot and with a ton of teams in the mix the Giants could miss out altogether if they aren’t careful.
The Giants are 6-15 in their last 21 road games, 0-5 in their last five against the NL Central, and are 0-4 in their last four against a lefty while the Cubs are 35-17 in their last 52 games overall, 5-0 in Lester’s last five home starts, and 5-1 in their last six after scoring five or more in their last game. The Cubs are the deeper team and have the pitching edge here and while the price isn’t great I think they get it done once again.
