The Houston Astros battle instate and division rival the Texas Rangers in Friday action.
The surging Houston Astros have won eight of ten as they try to solidify a spot in the postseason. Even though the Astros are rolling, it’s been difficult making up ground in the American League West because division leader Texas is also winning. The Stros downed visiting Oakland 4-3 in Wednesday action as starter Mike Fiers gave up all three runs (one earned) over five frames with four relievers putting up zeros. Houston managed six hits and three walks with Jose Altuve driving in a run and scoring while Alex Braman scored twice. Houston has scheduled Doug Fister for the start against the Rangers for the 4th time in 2016. Fister comes off a 10-4 defeat to Tampa Bay with all four runs allowed (Two earned) over 4.1 innings.

The Texas Rangers have built a solid lead in the American League West and don’t appear to be letting up wit wins in seven of eight. The Rangers won their 5th straight after throttling Seattle 14-1 on Wednesday. Texas starter Martin Perez improved to 9-10 with six scoreless innings. Texas racked up 12 hits and walked six times. With Adrian Beltre, Rougned Odor, Ryan Rua and Carlos Gomez going deep and driving in 12 runs. AJ Griffin toes the rubber for second time this season versus the Astros in Friday action. The over is 5-2-1 in Houston’s last 8 road games and is 12-5-1 in their last 18 on grass while the under is 9-3 in Fister’s last 12 road starts. The over is 6-1-1 in Texas last 8 games following a win and is 8-3-1 in their last 12 overall while the Rangers are 21-8 in their last 29 games on grass. Houston are 13-40 in the last 53 meetings in Texas and are 26-68 in the last 94 meetings. I probably just watch because I stink at Griffin games…
