Pitching for the Giants on Saturday will be lefty Madison Bumgarner. In his 28 starts and 13-8 record this season, Bumgarner holds a 2.49 ERA with a 1.04 WHIP in 187.2 innings. In his last start against the Braves, Bumgarner logged a win with seven innings, five hits and three earned.
There are some nice hitters in the San Francisco order. Denard Span has hit 134 times with 59 runs and 46 RBI. Brandon Crawford holds 128 hits with 56 runs and 77 RBI. Buster Posey has hit 126 times with 72 runs and 62 RBI.
Over on the Cubs’ side, we’ll be seeing RHP Jake Arrieta in the starting role Saturday. Over his 26 starts and 16-5 record this season, Arrieta has a 2.84 ERA with a 1.05 WHIP in 168 innings. Arrieta logged a no-decision in 6.1 innings against the Pirates in his last start, giving up five hits and six earned.
The Chicago lineup isn’t hurting for bats. Kris Bryant owns 154 hits with 112 runs, 36 homers and 91 RBI. Anthony Rizzo has logged 143 hits with 80 runs, 26 homers and 93 RBI. Ben Zobrist sits on 124 hits with 80 runs and 66 RBI.
The Giants are 12-2 in Bumgarner’s last 14 starts against the National League Central, and 6-2 in Bumgarner’s last eight starts with five days’ rest. San Francisco is also 5-2 in Bumgarner’s last seven starts in game three of a series, and 0-5 in Bumgarner’s last five road starts.
Meanwhile, the Cubs are 9-3 in their last 12 game threes of a series, and 4-1 in their last five home games versus a left-handed starter. Chicago is also 3-7 in their last 10 Saturday games, and 40-12 in Arrieta’s last 52 starts.
I think Bumgarner will pitch pretty well here, but I’m still going with the Cubs for the victory. Give me Chicago.
