The New York Mets look to score another big home win against their division rivals as they host the Washington Nationals for Sunday Night Baseball.
The Nationals couldn’t get anything going yesterday as they dropped a tough one to the surging New York Mets and while the Nats have some breathing room in the NL East race they still have their sights set on possibly earning the top seed in the NL. Washington will be a tough team to face off against come playoff time as they have a star studded rotation and a lineup that is capable of hitting with the best of them and while they went ice cold yesterday they have a great chance to bounce back here as the Mets will send Seth Lugo to the mound. Washington will counter with Reynaldo Lopez who is 2-2 with a 5.33 ERA this season but his presence on the mound has the Nats favoured by quite a bit as a road favourite which is very intriguing as the Mets are the more desperate group and their hurler has a sparkling 2.60 ERA this season.

The Mets have really been the streakiest team in the league this season as they have spurts where they look like world beaters and weeks where they look like they belong in the minors but overall they are three games above the .500 mark and are fighting tooth and nail to grab a wild card spot. New York is a full 10.5 games back of the Nats for top spot in the NL East division so it is safe to assume that they will not chase down their rivals for top spot and earn an automatic berth in the postseason but taking them down on a game by game basis will certainly help their cause in getting close to a wild card spot.
Washington is 4-1 in their last five road games, 42-18 in their last 60 against the NL East, and 2-5 in their last seven Sunday games while the Mets are 6-1 in their last seven Sunday games, 8-3 in their last 11 home games, and 10-4 in their last 14 overall. New York needs to win this game and they are getting a great price here and being at home on Sunday Night Baseball they are well worth a shot.
