The Houston Astros need a road win against the Texas Rangers to keep pace in the playoff race.
The Houston Astros are playing well and have their eyes set on a Wild Card. The Astros had won seven of ten but took one on the chin in a 12-4 defeat at Texas on Saturday where nothing was successful. Stros starter Joe Musgrove was charged with five runs over 4.1 frames to absorb the loss before Brady Rodgers was tagged for another five runs in 2/3 of an inning. Houston pounded out eleven hits and walked four times with Evan Gattis going deep while Jake Marisnick, homered and drove in two. Collin McHugh toes the rubber against the division rival Rangers on Sunday afternoon. McHugh was at his best last time out in a 3-1 win versus Oakland with six scoreless innings.

The Texas Rangers are motoring towards the American League West title and the question is when, not if. The red hot Rangers had won eight of ten before winning again Saturday to move a step closer to wrapping up the division. Texas starter Derek Holland improved to 7-6bwith two runs allowed through six innings with Dario Alvarez serving up a two run bomb in the 9th. The Rangers amassed 16 hits and three BB with Carlos Beltran and Nomar Mazara both going deep and driving in two while Ian Desmond, Rougned Odor and Mitch Moreland also knocked in two runs apiece. The Rangers give Sunday’s start against the visiting Astros to Yu Darvish. Darvish comes off of a 6-3 against the Mariners with all three runs given up on six hits while striking out nine in 6.2 frames.
