On Tuesday, the Mets will be bringing out RHP Rafael Montero for the start. Over three games and one start with a 0-0 record this year, Montero has put up a 3.68 ERA with a 1.91 WHIP in 7.1 innings. In Montero’s lone start this year, he put up five innings with two hits and no earned.
New York has a few interesting hitters at the top of their order. Asdrubal Cabrera has hit 118 times with 51 runs and 48 RBI. Neil Walker (who is banged up right now) sits on 116 hits with 57 runs, 23 homers and 55 RBI. Yoenis Cespedes holds 114 hits with 58 runs, 27 homers and 68 RBI.
Over on the Reds’ side, we’ll be seeing lefty Brandon Finnegan in the starting role. Across 27 starts and an 8-10 record this year, Finnegan holds a 4.19 ERA with a 1.32 WHIP in 154.2 innings. Finnegan put up a loss his last time out with seven innings, five runs and two earned against the Angels.
Let’s check out a few of the Reds’ hitters. Joey Votto holds 141 hits with 85 runs, 22 homers and 79 RBI. Brandon Phillips has hit 134 times with 62 runs and 53 RBI. Eugenio Suarez has hit 119 times with 65 runs, 20 homers and 62 RBI.
The Mets are 5-1 in their last six Tuesday games, and 5-2 in their last seven game twos of a series. New York is also 3-7 in Montero’s last 10 starts, and 3-7 in Montero’s last 10 starts on grass.
As for the Reds, they’re 4-1 in their last five Tuesday games, and 6-2 in their last eight game twos of a series. Cincinnati is also 4-0 in Finnegan’s last four starts in game two of a series, and 3-9 in Finnegan’s last 12 starts following a quality start in his last appearance.
I’m not too thrilled about either pitcher here, but I’ll take the Mets and the over for this one.
