The St. Louis Cardinals and the Pittsburgh Pirates will be finishing up their MLB series on Wednesday from PNC Park.
In Monday’s series opener, the Cardinals took a rousing 12-6 win. On Tuesday, St. Louis managed a 9-7 victory to make it two in a row.

On Wednesday, the Cardinals will be bringing out right-hander Mike Leake. In 25 starts and a 9-9 record this year, Leake has put up a 4.56 ERA with a 1.27 WHIP in 152 innings. Leake got a win over the Phillies his last time out, going seven innings with seven hits and no earned.
The Cardinals have some noteworthy hitters at their disposal. Stephen Piscotty has managed 137 hits with 77 runs, 20 homers and 75 RBI. Yadier Molina holds 134 hits with 46 runs and 46 RBI. Matt Carpenter sits on 109 hits with 70 runs and 59 RBI.
Over on the Pirates’ side, we’ll be seeing RHP Jameson Taillon in the start Wednesday. In his 14 games and 3-4 record this year, Taillon has put up a 3.25 ERA with a 1.07 WHIP in 83 innings. Taillon logged a loss in his last appearance, going six innings with three hits and one run against the Brewers.
The Pirates have some talent at the plate as well. Starling Marte has hit 151 times with 71 runs and 46 RBI. Josh Harrison has logged 131 hits with 53 runs and 55 RBI. Andrew McCutchen holds 127 hits with 70 runs, 20 homers and 60 RBI.
The Cardinals are 7-1 in their last eight Wednesday games, and 4-1 in Leake’s last five road starts. St. Louis is also 6-2 in Leake’s last seven road starts versus a team with a losing record, and 6-2 in Leake’s last eight starts in game three of a series.
As for the Pirates, they’re 1-4 in their last five game threes of a series, and 5-0 in Taillon’s last five starts with four days’ rest. Pittsburgh is also 8-3 in Taillon’s last 11 starts, and 5-2 in Taillon’s last seven home starts.
The Pirates simply haven’t been playing good baseball lately, so I’ll take the Cardinals for the win here.
